Motionflow 100Hz lets you see fast-moving sports and action scenes like never before by unlocking the amazing detail they contain. This blur reduction technology produces super-smooth, ultra-realistic viewing by doubling the conventional number of frames in a sequence. After every frame it creates an additional unique frame before the next one, based on key factors in the preceding and following images. Bravia Engine 3

An LCD television creates pictures by switching millions of pixels on and off.  In the W5500 this process is controlled by the BRAVIA ENGINE 3, the latest version of Sony’s advanced digital processing technology.  It applies a digital perfecting process to reduce noise and produce cleaner images, higher contrast and smoother motion sequences, resulting in enhanced overall performance regardless of source.

It also detects and adjusts the overall colour distribution of each frame and smoothes diagonal lines of pixels in fast-moving pictures to prevent jagged edges and bleeding colours.

AppliCast™

AppliCast™ lets you see internet information on your BRAVIA TV while you're watching television. You don't have to switch on your PC - just call up widgets onto the TV screen.  Three widgets,  including a clock and calendar,  are already installed on the on-screen XrossMediaBar and you can add RSS feeds of news, weather and more by connecting your TV to the internet via the Ethernet port at the back.  Just select the information you want with your BRAVIA remote and it's right there whenever you need it.

The TV looks great! The frame is shiny, but you get a little cloth to remove dust. Upon turning it on for the first time, the set up was fast and simple. I didn't even need the manual at first. Above all, the picture looks great! When close-up, DVD and TV looks a little grainy, but it looks great when above 3m away. The colours and textures are rich. However, blu-ray looks stunning! "I looked for a LCD for weeks and decided to go with the Panasonic L37S10b37 and I have made the right choice.  The picture quality is fantastic and Sky+ could be HD it took me 30 mins to calibrate the right colours but when you get it right its amazing.  I also ordered a Blu ray DMP-BD35 Blu-ray Player from amazon and again the quality is fantastic can not recommend the two enough.  The picture on normal DVD upscales to 1080 and it is very close to Blu Ray in terms of quality.  I watched Iron Man tonight in Blu ray and the picture and sound was mind blowing."

IPS ALPHA PANELS

Many LCDs suffer from colour wash-out when not viewed from directly in front – a big problem if you have a large family trying to watch a film together.

However the latest generation of IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, manufactured in-house by Panasonic, builds on years of experience with industry leading wide viewing angle technology, providing an unrivalled LCD TV viewing experience.

New generation (or "alpha") IPS provides the widest viewing angle possible with the least colour washout, even when viewed from the side. Our LCD panels are built on the strengths of IPS by delivering faster response time and reproducing intense realistic deep black levels and contrast ratios, especially when employed with Panasonic Intelligent Scene Controller technology.

24P PLAYBACK - 24P REAL CINEMA

When reproducing a 24p movie source, the 24p Real Cinema function generates smooth motion transition based on the original 24 frames. Models that do not include 24p Real Cinema are equipped with 24p Playback. The 24p Playback function provides cinema-like images by using a pull-down up to 96Hz.

What does this mean?

Most movies are shot at 24 frames per second, while TV is shot at 60 frames per second.  Since TV shows are shot at a faster rate, TV sets need to be able to properly show this.  Until now, most TVs use a technique known as 'pull down', which approximately matches the 24p frames with the TV's native frame rate, but this can cause some image judder as the source frames and the displayed frames do not match up exactly.

Panasonic have taken this into account and to overcome the issue,  they have introduced a 24P Playback function on its entire new range of  2008 VIERA flat screen TVs.

Most movies are shot at 24 frames per second, while TV is shot at 60 frames per second. Since TV shows are shot at a faster rate, TV sets need to be able to properly show this.
